House in Hiyoshi

This compact home ‘House in Hiyoshi’ by Japanese firm EANA is located in Yokohama City and was designed as simple as possible. The rectangular house includes a bedroom, a future kid-room, storage space and a bathroom, all placed on the first floor with a low ceiling, while the floor-to-height distances are flexible and can be adjusted to future needs.

Inner-City Arts

Michael Maltzan Architecture created the Inner-City Arts project, as an approach to give at-risk children and young people the facilities and opportunities to develop artistic skills and to access cultural values. It is located right in the middle of Skid Row, the place with the highest concentration of homeless people in the whole US.

D House

Paris based architecture studio ‘Lode Architecture’ designed a 250 sqm holiday house on a river bank in Brittany, France. ‘D House’ is camouflaged into the nature around it, reflecting the woods and leafs in the big window glasses and assimilating it in its facade and interior.

Casa MM

The climate of São Paulo, southeastern Brazil pretty much determined the habitability of the ‘Casa MM’ by architectural studio StudioMK27. The green roof not only lifts the grass of the land but also acts as an insulator, while all spaces are provided with ventilation through wooden folding doors and brises-soleil that can be fully opened.

El Batel

Selgas Cano Architects built the ‘El Batel’ auditorium and convention center in Cartagena on Spain’s coast. The sructure is over two hundred meters in length, combining volumes of different heights. A long facade unites all volumes. The building is lit by night to create a clear accent while color is selectively used to set everything in motion.

Cantilever Lake House

The goal for the ‘Cantilever Lake House’ by Birdseye Building was to create a modern lakeside camp aesthetic while maintaining contextual sensitivity. Thus the architects embedded the structure into the existing hillside to avoid an excessively vertical massing while simultaneously creating a walk-out lower level adjacent to the lake.

City of Culture of Galicia

The architect Peter Eisenman built a ‘city of culture’ called ‘Cidade da Cultura de Galicia’ in Santiago de Compostela, Spain. The building was created to be a national symbol of Galician history and culture. It consists of four structures that blend with each other and rise as an amorphous structure out of the landscape.
