Föhr

This project is located on Föhr, a small island in the North Sea. In the village of Alkersum, inside a former hay storage of a traditional farmhouse, architect Karin Matz and Francesco Di Gregorio redefined the whole space with a wood structure covered by 3.200 tiles, each with a hand-made circular hole, 500 mt of polypropylene blue rope and treated pine wood.

Guangzhou Opera House

The Guangzhou Opera House by Zaha Hadid Architects is located in the center of the ‘factory of the world’, the capital of Guangdong Province (Canton) on the north bank of the Pearl River. The opera house was opened in 2010. The complex consists of several large softly shaped polyhedra, reminiscent of large boulders. The architect speaks of ‘pebbles in the river’.

Vöcklabruck

Westpol architects created this wonderfully picturesque spot in Vöcklabruck, Austria where visitors are able to sit in the middle of a pond without getting wet. The scenic landscape includes a path leading down to a hollowed out circular area where people can take a seat and relax amongst nature.

Residence in Kifissia

Tense Architecture Network built a ‘Residence in Kifissia’. The residence’s plot is small and an adjacent building almost blocks the southern sun. The main part of the field remains free and becomes the residence itself: an austere prism, centrally supported, hovers above the liberated ground.

Green Box

Act Romegialli Architects built the ‘Green box’ as the renovation of a small disused garage, an accessory to a weekend house situated on the slopes of the Raethian Alps. A structure realized with lightweight metal galvanized profiles and steel wires wraps the existent volume and transforms it into a three-dimensional support for the climbing vegetation. It is composed mainly by deciduos vegetation.

Permanent Camping

Located on a remote pristine mountain on a sheep station in central western NSW, this structure by Casey Brown Architecture is sited at the edge of a ridge surrounded by large granite boulders and ancient dead trees. The tower has panoramic views for hundreds of miles to the horizon.

Nieto Sobejano Arquitectos designed the ‘Espacio de Creación Contemporánea Andaluz’, an art gallery for exhibitions, events and artistic productions. The architects draw their inspiration from the moorish architectural culture of Cordoba with its mysterious geometrical order and rhythmic nesting.
