Photographer Amber YJ Lai Tests The Boundaries Of Perception

Words

Photographer Amber YJ Lai created ‘Beyond Perception’, a series of photographs exploring the human ability to perceive well-known objects in a new way. When not photographing, Amber works in graphic design and art direction. After graduating from Goldsmiths, University of London, she moved to Taipei, Taiwan. In ‘Beyond Perception’, the artist intends to examine how we perceive things when they are taken out of their context.

Amber says: “Perception defines the boundaries of consciousness. By making daily objects unknown and eliminating their applicability, we can find the new significance of symbolism and ways of seeing.”
