Deconstructed Portraits Of The Body By Patricia Voulgaris

Words

In her series ‘Hidden In Plain Sight‘, New York-based artist and photographer Patricia Voulgaris creates striking images depicting deconstructed body portraits that question the viewer’s perception. By covering various body parts behind sheets of paper, the conceptual images combine “space, object and material”.

Voulgaris’s photography has been exhibited throughout the States. In a statement about her practice, the photographer says: “My work primarily focuses on combining photography and sculpture using the human form as a platform objectively through juxtaposition, layering and context, I am interested in the deconstruction and recontextualization of an image and the result: a manipulated hybrid.”
