Peechaya Burroughs | Cherine Fahd

Oftentimes, we stumble upon artworks that stem from the same idea but have very different visual outcomes. That’s why we set up our ‘Two of a Kind‘ series – to see how two artists working with the same starting materials can transform them in their own unique way.

This time we gave googly eyes, small rubber bands and burlap cloth to Sydney-based graphic designer Peechaya Burroughs and mixed media artist Cherine Fahd. See what they came up with below…

PEECHAYA BURROUGHS

Sydney-based Peechaya Burroughs is a graphic designer with a penchant for photography. We’ve featured her work previously. Burroughs’s minimalistic compositions with a quirky touch run like a common thread through her creations and her ‘Two of a Kind’ contribution is no different.

CHERINE FAHD

With a background in drawing, painting and sculpture, mixed media artist Cherine Fahd focuses on photography. We’ve featured her work before. Says Fahd about the idea behind her ‘Two of a Kind’ contribution titled ‘Girl’: “As soon as I opened the package and saw the various objects, the ‘little eyes’ struck me as perfect as the basis of a ‘face’. And I knew I would immediately use them as eyes. It’s a simple approach. I didn’t want to destroy the objects, so the challenge was to use them as they were and see what would arise. I found the bust in a second hand market and it was perfect for the face. ‘Girl’ is for the most part puzzled (at least her expressions suggest so).”
