Skin by Ariana Russell

Words

Our skin tells our stories. Each bruise and scar is linked to an experience and a memory that make us who we are. Ariana Page Russell’ skin blushes easily. The slightest scratch will become visible as swollen line on pink skin.

Due to a condition called dermatographia, her immune system releases excessive amounts of histamine, causing capillaries to dilate and welts to appear, lasting about thirty minutes. This allows her to painlessly draw on her skin with just enough time to photograph the results. The outcome are maybe irritating, yet fascinating close ups of art of temporary nature.
Ariana Page Russel also has a dermatographia blog in which she invites everyone with the same condition to submit an image and/or story of their skin.
