Sohlbergplassen Viewpoint

Words

Inspired by a painting by the Norwegian artist Harald Sohlberg, architect Carl-Viggo Hølmebakk created an impressive observation deck. ‘Sohlbergplassen View Point’ is located within the first Norwegian national park in Atnsjø, Stor-Elvdal, Norway. Surrounded by pine trees, the platform lies in a magical place.

With a view towards the seemingly blue mountain range, this viewpoint is a popular spot for nature-loving visitors. The structure consisting of reinforced concrete is perfectly integrated into the surrounding environment. In order to avoid having to cut down trees, Carl-Viggo Hølmebakk simply included the pine trees into the structure. Rectangular openings in the floor allow rain and sunlight to get down to the terrain, creating a certain weightlessness of the platform.
