Cloud Ceiling

Words

Constructed and built from hand-bent steel, reflective mylar, elcetronics, LEDs and 15,000 re-appropriated incandescent light bulbs ‘Cloud Ceiling’ is a permanent installation. Specifically designed for the Progress Bar in Chicago, Canadian artists Caitlind r.c. Brown and Wayne Garrett, create a magnificent, seemingly magical glowing electric heartbeat.

‘As bar patrons pass beneath the installation, they trip motion sensors within the ‘Cloud’, creating ‘lightning’ beneath the cumulus surface of light bulbs, mapping their progress through the space and the social ‘electricity’ between people’ the artists explain. Caitlind Brown and Wayne Garrett’s ‘Cloud Ceiling’ is the third installation in the Cloud series since their collaborative sculpture ‘Cloud’ at Nuit Blanche Calgary. In January 2013 they built a second edition of the piece at the Garage Center for Contemporary Culture in Moscow.
