Five Landscape Modes

Words

‘Five Landscape Modes’ is a show created from physical objects. The artist Jason Gowans built maquettes using found negatives, his own photographs, and images from the Internet. He pieces the images together, rearranges them and creates a whole new experience of landscapes for the viewer of his work.

The images directly address the multiple points of view and time that exist within landscapes that are lost in the act of taking a picture with a camera. Concerning the name of his project Jason Gowans ‘liked the idea of people with smart phone cameras, rotating them portrait mode to landscape mode’.Rather than having a singular representation of a site, the landscape is made up of parts that move, shift, and seemingly rotate.
