The Avant/Garde Diaries met Xander Ferreira, an artist from South Africa working in performance, music, installation, photography, and film in order to get at the multifarious roots of African culture. Ferreira is interested in the clash of new and old, modern and ancient as well as in a design process out of necessity which is taking place in Afrika. A dedicated collaborator as well, one of his most recent is with the Denmark-based Inoue Brothers. They work on a fashion project collaboration called ‘Ubuntu’, which attempts to create awareness of responsible production methods through quality and design.
