London-based artist Jonty Hurwitz creates ‘Anamorphic Sculptures’ which only reveal themselves once facing a reflective cylinder. Hurwitz took an engineering degree in Johannesburg where he discovered the fine line between art and science. He has lived in England for many years, working in the online industry though he quietly levitated into the world of art inspired by a need to make ‘something real’. Hurwitz discovered that he could use science as an artistic paintbrush. Each of his sculptures is a study on the physics of how we perceive space and is the stroke of over 1 billion calculations and algorithms.

Interesting to see modern examples of this. I just read about a Jacobean version of this at the West Highlands Museum http://www.westhighlandmuseum.org.uk/collections/the-jacobites/

I've seen a similar piece in the Les Arts Décoratifs Museum in Paris... expect it was not quite as epic as this being only a painting (2d) version.
This is definitely stepping it up!
Thanks for sharing.

Ottimo!!!!!!!!!!! la ricostruzione dell'oggetto attraverso la sua deormazione,
può essere il sistema di ovviare a moltissimi problemi della nostra società,
analizzando le sue deormazioni ricostruire una società sana e propositiva.

Whoooaaa! That is totally how life is. When we focus on outside reality, everything spread out and it's a bit trickier to make sense of what we're looking at. But when we look at our core, our outside reality becomes much more clear...

As an artist who works as a sculptor,I can really appreciate the amazing amount of vision he can pull from the library of his mind. Hurwitz works are without doubt some of the most amazing pieces I've come across.

Dali had done some of this, and I once had a anamorphic puzzle like this: http://www.mathartfun.com/shopsite_sc/store/html/AnaPuzzles.html - so you see, it has been commercialized ages ago already.

This, this is brilliant. I personally wouldn't suffice to an opportunity to study engineering like this guy did, but it's amazing how thin that 'line' really is.
Well done!

Jonty Hurwitz is a genius.....conceptually each creation proves he is without peer.....his executions result in creations that are totally unique, beautiful, and thought-provoking.
Oh to be in a position to be able to acquire one of his treasures.
One would never tire of reflecting on it.
Apr 18, 2013 · 07:57
In turn imaging, is very good
Apr 19, 2013 · 00:49
To be unique in a scientific and technological age is the key. Brilliant artists still have hope!
Apr 20, 2013 · 17:36
These resemble mirrored anamorphosis of the exact sort from the 17th & 18th century.
They were also produced a reflective column, a mirror effect to "reveal" the anamorphic image. I understand this can be produced by an optical program now, with the aide of a computerized camera.
These are very effective. Really successfully rendered. It is impressive.
Hardly genius, as one of the visitors says; if this were genius then what would Holbein be for having painted probably the most famous anamorphosis in art history in the 1500's? We'd have to call him a Demigod. {"The Ambassadors" National Gallery, London}

cool..
Apr 25, 2013 · 19:29
I remeber S. Dali doing it
Apr 25, 2013 · 20:16
I've been warned every day that there's a new comment here, and when I get here I
find WAUW, cool, and Dali do it!
Who do I have to tell that I don't need to be apprised of those kind of comments?
That doesn't rate the "creative output" radar. Maybe the new stuff isn't appearing on my computer screen.
Apr 28, 2013 · 00:49
Dali would be proud.
Apr 28, 2013 · 12:39
