Anonymous Confessions

Was in Las Vegas passiert, bleibt in Las Vegas.

This is not just "inspired by" but is in fact completely derivative of Post Secret. It doesn't deserve this attention. It's unoriginal and one-dimensional. Post Secret is extraordinary, completely fascinating, and has the additional richness of including the artwork of those who provide their secrets. It is a far superior project. This one brings nothing new to the party.

Love this. I would spend all day going through those, just looking at each one, seeing what people confessed to. Just from these limited pictures, I'm sure it would break my heart, yet rebuild something meaningfully beautiful.

I don't really understand why some people feel it's sad. I think it's happy. Letting go should always be a happy moment or feeling. But I'm not here to judge, just to see what makes this idea sad.

the difference between this and postsecret, is that this is much more concrete. The act of writing a secret down on (what appears to be) a block of wood, and hanging it on the wall would a lot more courage than posting your secrets on a webpage, I think. The fact that the secrets take up an entire room gives it presence, and makes them real. Plus, it makes it more of an artistic statement, rather than a therapeutic method.

  26. tr
    Nov 28, 2012 · 08:36

In addition to this being done a dozen times over, is it ever melodramatic. A bunch of spoiled hipsters spinning "oh woe is me" in the most cowardly way possible. Get over your first world problems and grow up.
I'm addicted to cheating? Maybe you should take a hit of 'not being a selfish brat'. But that isn't what all the kids are doing these days, is it?

posting secrets on a wall... how is that unique considering posting secrets in a book was done years ago... I still have my four PostSecret books which are still much more creative since they allowed the person sending their secret in the chance to put it on any type of item they wanted. Not to mention how PostSecret originally started, the creator left envelopes in various public locations and it took a curious mind to spot them and actually go through with what was asked "write a secret, and sent them to this anonymous person. They put them on postcards, random notes or scraps of paper and even drawings on paper and really let them define their secret for the strongest effect. Some "artists" just rip off other ideas and put them on a different canvas, in this case a few sheets of wood as oppose to paper and on a wall rather than in a book.

Lol. My confession - I'm addicted to reading comment threads. Yup, it's been done before, and in a more subtle way, but perhaps this way makes it accessible to different people, and more of them. On first hearing about PostSecret, I thought it was a very unique and beautiful idea, reworked for this time, here and now. A good rule of thumb is to bear in mind that so much art and creative venture is entirely subjective anyway, open to interpretation and the "eye of the beholder".
Further, I thought the confession mentioned said "I am addicted to camping". I thought that seemed rather a tame confession.....well, depends if you keep inflicting it on others really, like most addictions!

I do wonder if there is any effect on the person making the "confession". I also think confessing is a little different than disclosing a secret. And neither necessarily has to be negative. Secrets can be positive, even if they often aren't, and so can confessions. Not all revelation is attached to guilt or shame.

Although the concept may have been taken from this said "postsecret," I have to disagree. It takes a lot more to actually get off your ass, write something on a card, and hang it on the wall. Scrolling through a website of post cards, or physically experiencing something... hmmmm ya not the same.

For those with the narrow viewpoint consider this:
I went to an in-person presentation by Frank Warren, the creator of PostSecret. He told of one secret he received in an envelope. On the outside of the envelope the submitter wrote that he had just read a secret on the PostSecret web site that gravely affected his perception of his own life. Inside the envelope was the torn up suicide note he had writen a short time earlier. What he had just read on the site had changed his life that significantly. He knew finally that he was not alone, others felt as he did. Stories like this, and there are many of them, have made an impact on my life.
All the put-downs and bashing we are seeing here shows these commenters see the world and its' people with a very narrow view point, which is why they can’t comprehend what this is all about. These people could spend a few minutes considering this:
"There is a principle which is a bar against all information, which is proof against all arguments and which cannot fail to keep a man in everlasting ignorance - that principle is contempt prior to investigation."
    -Herbert Spencer

It says one of his inspirations was from Postsecret but if you think it's the same or not as good I say so what? I loved that site and it really helped me through my high school years to know I wasn't alone. That being said how the site gets THOUSANDS of post cards if not more and only puts up a few a week. How many people had secrets they sent in and never got to share? How many people could have related to those unseen cards? This wall is open to ANYONE in the area and I think the postsecret writer would be proud that his message is inspiring other people to do this so that more people can get their secrets out there.

It doesn't matter who did it first, or who will do it last, what matters is that is has been done and people appreciate other's thoughts because it allows them to consider their own. Experience Project (website) is the same thing but you can look at any confession and add your own at any time. I have been on it, made several confessions and read many others. Has it helped? I don't know. It allows me to see and consider my thoughts a little better and feel that I am not alone in how I see things. PostSecret sold books, sold other peoples confessions because they couldn't display them all. Check out Experience Project and see them for free.

As long as people are making confessions, what matters how they are doing it? Whether it is similar to PostSecret or not - God and Jesus teaches us to confess and repent. I can think of several things I have confessed that others may not feel strong enough to confess to God, but by writing them down, they are confessing them to God, but they are also confessing them to others and in that way, are seeking forgiveness.

Funny! Everyone loves the idea, but so few actual confessions! I think there would be more if you weren't asked for your name?!? I think I would confess that I don't like my kids much. I don't think they like me either. But I think if they got their heads out of their own asses and got to know who I am, they would at least respect me. Not saying we don't love each other! Something else funny? I wrote that last sentence so ppl reading this wouldn't judge me! Maybe bc a lot of the ppl posting are more judgmental of others, rather than caring. But I see that a lot, all over the internet! Mean ppl that can't spell!

I have been told that someone constructed an artificial pink blob composed of a body length plastic bag, inflated and sealed at the neck, and 2 pink fleece bags stretched over the inner inflated one. They said the sensations experienced within the heavenly soft pinkness were overpowering, irresistable and were like being engulfed and eaten by a pink blob, just like in The Science Fiction Movies, but they insisted THAT THEIR ACTIONS SHOULD NEVER BE TRIED WITHOUT COMPLETE SAFETY, AND WERE NOT AN ATTEMPT TO COMMIT SUICIDE.

I think this is quite interesting, and there is definitely something that resonates with me emotionally. I do not know if it is sad, but there is a certain compassion, and perhaps empathy that was visceral while reading this article. I enjoyed it greatly!

BRAVO!!! The concept is nothing new but this confession thing is so delicious and fascinating that no matter how many times this idea gets used, it stays delicious and fascinating. Love that project!
