Climbing walls are pretty trendy to stay fit these days, but this wall is just different and it seems like the visitors were climbing through a Alice in Wonderland scene. At the Illoiha fitness club the architecture studio Nendo designed this unusual two-story climbing wall to unify the space. To express the original brand concept of 'becoming beautiful through movement' they chose the theme 'rock-climbing in Omotesando' and developed a design that uses the mismatch between a rugged outdoor sport and Tokyo's fashion district to its advantage. Instead of usual rough climbing wall, they decided to use interior design elements like picture frames, mirrors, deer heads, bird cages and flower vases to create a challenging wall with hard-to-find holds and exceptional finger grips. Seeing this Alice-Wall I get in the mood to try out this sport myself.
