After introducing you to the unique stones of Lameroo Beach in Australia I will now tell you what strange and completely different happened next to it at Mindil Beach: Every year in July self-built boats made of beer or soft drink cans compete in the Darwin ‘Beer Can Regatta‘.
This year the biggest boat, ‘The Extravacanza’, counted 30.000 cans and was the center of attention – not only because of the free booze on board and a very cheerful captain. It was a day filled with sun(burn), a lot of good food and next to the boats racing I could witness the ‘Sandcastle Building Competition’ and the famous ‘Thong Throwing’ (not what you think, a thong in Australia means flip-flop). But have a look yourself.
